OLD-FASHIONED MADE EASY!
This recipe has something for everyone. You can follow the original poster’s links to the recipes for the white cake as well as the brownie, or you can cheat a little bit and use a box mix. I must confess that I used box mix. Hey, it was my birthday and I was busy with 100 other things. I didn’t have the time to do completely from scratch, and with a recipe like this, I appreciated that option. From scratch or box, you’ll prepare your white cake into 2 of those 9-inch round cake pans and let them cool. You’ll also prepare the brownies in the same size pan.
Meanwhile, make the chocolate sauce. When brownies are still warm, remove them from the pan and place them on your cake stand. You’ll take your chocolate sauce and pour it slowly on top so it soaks into the brownie. Let it do its thing for about 30 minutes. And while it does that, make your cream cheese frosting. You’ll then begin the layering process, being careful not to use too much frosting on each layer so you have enough to frost the top and sides. Once that’s all done, chill it before you serve it. See? With the mixes, it is simple to make before your guests arrive. Swirling the frosting with your spatula will create a pretty pattern will add a nice touch too.
