When your star ingredient is peaches, you really can’t go wrong. While fresh peaches are preferred, if you can’t find them, you can always used the canned variety. It will still be delish, promise! This recipe calls for buttermilk though, which most people don’t make a habit of keeping around the house. If you’ve already run to the store with your screaming kids for the day and want to cry at the thought of having to run back out, calm down. You can MAKE your own buttermilk.
It’s true! According to the original post, for every cup of regular milk, add one tablespoon of either white vinegar or lemon juice. After letting it sit for 5 minutes, it will be ready to use. For the topping, if you don’t have a pastry blender, there’s nothing more soothing (to me, anyway) than digging right in with your clean bare hands and mixing it up that way. Maybe it’s that extra labor of love, but they seem to taste better that way.
