LAYERS AND LAYERS OF LOVE!
The creator of this recipe has a cookbook out that looks awesome. She’s got lots of amazing stuff on her blog too. In this recipe, she references 2 of her lemon cakes to use for the trifle. So you can follow those recipes if you wish to make the cake portion yourself and then cut it up into cubes for the trifle. Or if you have no time, much like me when I nearly forgot we were having his parents for dinner and I needed something fast, you can use a store-bought lemon or vanilla-flavored pound cake. Either will work fine.
Then it’s all about getting the other stuff together. Dissolve the sugar with the lemon juice on the stove. Make your Dream Whip by using both packets in the box and following the directions until the soft peaks form. Then make the pudding mixture. Once everything is ready, you’ll begin the layering process. Make sure you use a nice trifle bowl. Presentation is just as important as taste when it comes to making trifles. Layer the cake first and then brush with the lemon syrup, then add the lemon cream, followed by some of the whipped cream. Repeat this layering process and end with the whipped cream. On top, grate white chocolate and use lemon wedges and fresh mint to garnish. Don’t skip the garnish. It adds that extra something impressive.
I found this bright and beautiful recipe on the Melissa’s Southern Style Kitchen blog. Click the link below to see the blog and full recipe for this Outrageous Lemon Lover’s Trifle.
