THE CHOICE IS YOURS!
What I absolutely adore about this recipe is that the original poster gives you 2 options. The first is how to make this cake without using a box mix. It’s a bit more complex and time-consuming if you go that route. And just below that, she shares how to make it using a box mix. Feeling lazy, I took the box mix route. I know. I KNOW. But I had everything for it right there and in the name of reviewing recipes, I thought I should give it a try. So if you go the box route like me, don’t forget to make the ganache which is in the top recipe.
Now, this is actually a Kahlua cake. I did make mine with Kahlua because I love it and I happened to have some of it around from when I had some girlfriends over. It’s not the liqueur I typically reach for when I’m having a drink so I thought it would be nice to use it up. But if you don’t drink or will be serving someone who doesn’t drink for any reason whatsoever, you can still make this cake just fine without using a drop of alcohol. Simply sub in 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of chocolate extract or try 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of instant coffee dissolved in 2 tablespoons water for every 2 tablespoons of Kahlua called for. Enjoy!
