GO ON, GET HAPPY!
There’s something about jelly donuts. That soft donut texture and that warm gooey jelly inside. Yum! If you ever wondered how that jelly gets in there, you’re about to find out! Now when they say it’s time to make the donuts, remember that it takes time to make them. The dough needs to sit covered in a warm place so it can rise. It will double in size, much thanks to the yeast. Once it rises, you can punch it down. Knock it out good. It did make you wait a good 45 minutes after all. And then guess what? You’ll wait some more after you cut them into their portions. The waiting is the hardest part though.
But then, it’s fry time. You can use a deep fat fryer or an electric skillet. Or even a deep skillet in the absence of either of those. You’ll fry them until they’ve browned and drain the excess oil on paper towels. After they cool for a couple minutes, you’ll make a small incision on the side of each donut. You’ll pipe in jelly from your pastry bag. The best part is you can use any jelly you like. Strawberry. Raspberry. The choice is yours. Or mix and match so you don’t have to choose! Yes!
