A SIMPLE CAKE FROM A SIMPLER TIME!
I’m about to break a big rule of mine. But then again, I am the kind of person who feels that sometimes, rules are meant to be broken. Even if I ordered the rule in the first place. The rule in question? Cakes, unless they are of the breakfast variety, must always have frosting on top in order to be considered great. I know that sounds harsh but really, if you’re going to make a cake, give it a proper frosting. I always said this, until one of my baking buddies went on and on about a cake she’d made recently. The name “Hot Milk Cake” intrigued me a bit, but what really did it was my friend’s non-stop praise for it. So I asked her to send me the link for the recipe she used.
I must admit I was very dubious about this. The picture showed NO frosting. How could this possibly be THAT good? Oh ye of little faith. Shame on me. It’s a classic-style recipe from a bygone era and that alone should have made me shut my mouth and bake it. I hemmed and hawed and finally, I baked it. Now I only wish I’d known about this recipe sooner. It’s a hidden gem! Let’s go to the next page (click the Next button below) to discover how to make this Hot Milk Cake.
