DON’T DO STORE-BOUGHT AGAIN!
When I lived abroad in Asia, it suddenly became very clear to me what I was missing when I left America. Shelf-stable cakes. You know, like Little Debbie’s and stuff like that. Oh sure, they have shelf-stable cakes and such but they are SO different. Not in a bad or good way, really. It just depends on what you’re looking for. These never tasted as good to me. Probably because things here in America are much sweeter. Plus, the flavors were a bit different. There were chocolate things but red bean paste is really popular. So is green tea, often referred to as “matcha” over there. Green tea was good but I really began to get homesick for things that tasted like home.
My parents and some friends all sent Swiss Cake Rolls, which really helped but when I ran out I cried. I vowed that as soon as we arrived back in America, we were buying a ton of them. Only when we got here, I suddenly remembered oatmeal cream pies and I had to have them. HAD TO. Oh man! So good! But making them yourself like with this recipe here tastes even better, and it doesn’t have weird things in it you can’t pronounce, so make these instead. Let’s go to the next page (click the Next button below) to discover how to make these Homemade Oatmeal Cream Pies.
