MAKE YOUR CAKES EVEN BETTER!
All-purpose flour can really do so much. With all-purpose flour, you can make your own self-rising flour by combining 1 cup of all-purpose flour and 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. While for cake flour, all you need is 2 tablespoons of cornstarch for every cup of all-purpose flour. That’s it! Now, I should warn you that for self-rising flour, because it has baking powder, it can become less potent over time. So making a big batch of it if you’re not going to use it often might lead to waste.
But for the cake flour, you can store it for a while without any problems. It won’t lose potency. However, you should take care to store it in an air-tight container to keep bugs out. Nothing bugs me more, pardon the pun, when I go to grab something from the pantry and something creepy crawly has found its new home. Blech! So the next time you’re making a cake from scratch, try this homemade cake flour in your recipe and see how it turns out!
