CAFÉ-FRESH TASTE!
These come out tasting like something you’d get at a nice British café. If you’re the sort who gets a scone at Starbucks, you’re going to fall head-over-heels for these scones. They’re so easy too which makes me wonder why I have ever bothered to buy them from any store. Oh I know why. Laziness. Anyway, here’s what you need to know…
You need to put your oven rack to the lower-middle position for optimum baking on these. Make sure you do that before the preheat. You’ll need to zest the orange and mix it with the sugar so that it gets moist and fragrant. Then add the dry ingredients to this. Next, you’ll grate the butter into the flour mixture. A little unusual, but when you mix it together with your hands, it will have a coarse texture.
Next, the egg and sour cream get whisked together. Once that’s smooth, into the flour mixture it goes. You’ll stir with a fork until it turns into large clumps of dough. Then get busy with your hands to roll it into a ball. It’s going to be a wee bit sticky at first but keep rolling it in the bowl and it will work out. After you cut, bake and cool these, make the glaze. Dip the scones into the glaze and let it harden. Dip again in the glaze for an even better taste. Double-dipping the glaze is where it’s at!
