A SUPREMELY SAVORY SNACK!
These are easy because you can buy the wonton wrappers already made. Making them yourself is a bit more time-consuming. You’ll find them in the refrigerated section at the supermarket. Also, this recipe calls for egg substitute. If you don’t have that, or don’t want to use a substitute, just use egg.
You’ll cook the meats for the filling and then add it to a big bowl where you’ll add water chestnuts, soy sauce, egg and ginger. Then you’ll start rolling these up. Wonton wrappers are triangular. Make sure one of the points of the triangle is pointing at you. Keep a damp paper towel over the other wrappers until you use them. Add the filling to the wrapper right smack dab in the center. Fold the bottom corner over filling, then fold the sides toward center over the filling. And then roll it on home toward the other point. Seal it by dabbing water on the top corner and pressing down. Use cooking spray on your baking sheets and the wontons. It will keep them from sticking and will lend a nice golden brown without frying.
Sweet and sour sauce is great with these. As is that spicy Chinese mustard. Or that duck sauce. Or hoisin sauce. Oh! And I cannot believe I just thought of it now but Sriracha would have gone great with these. Dang. I’m off to make them again so I can do that.
