GIMME SOME SUGAR!
Warning: this recipe will give you 5 dozen cookies. So please don’t say I didn’t tell you that there would be a royal ton of cookies to tempt you. Make them for when friends are coming. Make them for your holiday cookie treats. Make them for your child’s school bake sale. Just don’t make them when you want only a few cookies, or reduce the measurements. Another thing I want to warn you about is that this recipe calls for shortening. You can use lard or butter instead as a healthier swap.
Once you get the dough mixed up, roll into small balls and then roll those balls into sugar. Get them onto your greased baking sheet and then flatten them. You can push them down with the clean bottom of a glass to get the proper effect. Just a short bake away, these babies will be ready. Let them cool completely on wire racks before giving it a taste. Keep repeating until all the dough has been baked. You can also freeze the remainder of cookies once they’ve cooled and enjoy them again at another time, if you can resist having a freezer full of cookies, that is!
