WHAT’S TOUCHED YOUR HEART TODAY?
As you know, I go through gobs and gobs of recipes, looking through many blogs to bring you the best ones I find. I’m always quick with a joke and a fun story but today, this recipe touched my heart. It was the photo that really drew me in, but when I read the story, it made me cry. The original poster had made the cake in memory of her father-in-law who had passed away suddenly. It broke my heart. It’s not like death is a new concept. It happens to everyone sooner or later, but when someone dies very suddenly, it seems even harder to swallow, especially if you had just seen that person.
My grandfather on my dad’s side – we called him Papa – passed away very suddenly when I was in college. He was older, sure, but not so old and feeble you could imagine it happening to him right then. It took us all by surprise, especially me because I’d just gone to have dinner with him a few nights before and he looked as full of life as ever. So instead of reviewing recipes, I cried for an hour. And then I pulled myself together and tried out this cake. This can be as glorious as you want it to be or as simple too. Plus, it has zucchini in it so if you have picky kids you can get them to eat veggies without them ever knowing.
