LET’S GET WACKY!
So what goes in this thing then, if there’s no eggs, milk or butter? Flour, cocoa, sugar, baking soda, salt, vegetable oil, water, pure vanilla extract and something you would likely never guess. It’s wacky, which is why this is sometimes called a Wacky Cake too. Give up? It’s white vinegar. Truly mind-boggling that this stuff turns out one of the best cakes you’ll ever bite into. The original poster provides some links for frosting too, which is great stuff. You can also opt to use your own favorite recipe for the frosting, or even cheat a little and use the canned stuff.
What you can’t cheat on is the method for making this cake. You’ll mix those first 5 dry ingredients in to your greased baking pan. Then, you’ll make 3 depressions in the dry ingredients. Two will be small and one you should make larger. The original poster provides some great photos so you can make sure you’re doing it right. In one depression, you’ll pour vinegar; vanilla goes in the other one; and in the larger one, you’ll add the vegetable oil. Pour the water over the whole thing and then mix until smooth. And then like the Great Depression, the rest is history.
This crazy, wacky recipe that I found to make this review comes from the Sweet Little Bluebird blog. Click the link below to see some more great pictures and get the detailed recipe.
