I love a good old recipe from yester-year. And I love a good mystery. So imagine how happy I was to find a cake that was from the Great Depression era and likely something my amazing cook of a grandma used to make AND was, well, completely crazy. Why is it crazy? Does it stand on the corner of the off-ramp and shout at the cars going by? Um, no. Not THAT kind of crazy. This cake is crazy because you don’t need eggs, milk or butter to make it. Yes, really.
I KNOW. It goes against everything I ever learned about making cakes. How can it even BE a cake without those things? Oh don’t you worry. This is so cake-tacular you’ll want to make it all the time, especially when you’re between supermarket trips and don’t feel like running out just for eggs, butter or milk.
