BLACK VELVET WITH THAT SLOW SOUTHERN STYLE!
You know, as I was just looking at the pictures of this cake, I thought if you really want to knock it up to supremely fancy, you could totally garnish it with gold flakes. Yeah, I know. I dream big. Anyway, your mixer gets to do all the tough stuff as usual, so don’t you worry. The hardest thing you’ll have to do is remember to buy buttermilk. Oh what’s that you say? You forgot? No worries. Make some yourself using a cup of regular milk and two tablespoons of lemon juice. Or two tablespoons of vinegar. Your call. Mix it up, let it sit and then you’ve got a suitable buttermilk for your recipe.
The ganache has almond extract which I think adds a little more touch of class to it. It’s so unassumingly glitzy, this cake. When you make the ganache though, make sure to pour it on your cooled cake quickly or it will set up and not really run down the sides like you want it to. You can leave it as-is or enjoy grating some chocolate on top. If you’re fancy and happen to have gold flakes lying around, try my idea!
