AN APPLE A DAY…
What’s great about these is that they really don’t take very long to make. Not like waffles at least. Or maybe that’s because I can only make one waffle at a time in the waffle iron. Anyway, these come together quick and I can assure you that if you blink, you will miss how quickly they can be eaten. For real.
Make the batter, then get the oil in your skillet. It should be about 1 ½-inches deep. It needs to be good and hot. That’s the key to making apple fritters right. If you don’t get the oil heated high enough, these will not turn out right and nothing is sadder than failed fritters, believe me. A good way to check this is to drop a little batter into the oil. If it floats on top, it’s ready to cook your fritters. Drop large spoonfuls of the batter into the oil and brown, about 2 minutes, flipping to the other side for another 2 minutes. Put them on a paper towel when done to absorb the extra oil, then put them on a rack to cool. Hurry and make the glaze, then pour it on the apple fritters. Let the glaze harden and then show your family how awesome you are. Enjoy!
