FALL FOR THESE FAST!
If you love that fall apple taste and you love peanut butter, you are totally in the right place. I’m definitely making these again when the weather gets that crispness in the air. Plus, they are super cinchy so they’ll be ready in no time! This recipe calls for shortening and I’m not such a fan of the stuff. It’s not very good for you. In fact, lard and butter are both healthier options than shortening. I used butter instead. I also chilled them for just a wee bit (30 minutes) to keep the dough from spreading, and I placed my cookies further apart to be sure they would join into one wonky-looking blob on my tray.
Another thing you should watch out for is that you shouldn’t sub in reduced-fat peanut butter. It will seriously mess things up, but if you used smooth peanut butter, that will be fine. I never buy the chunky type because the kids and husband don’t like it as much as the creamy version. Mine turned out just fine with creamy peanut butter. Once the dough is made, bake it, watching for a golden brown hue. Let these cool and then share the love!
