IT’S A WHOLE DIFFERENT KIND OF PIE!
As I said before, dessert pizzas are not your typical pizza pie. They’re a whole different category of desserts that we must welcome in with both arms for a giant hug. You’ll want to hug this dessert. Please don’t. You’ll get caramel sauce on your shirt.
Being that this is an apple crisp pizza, you should heed the advice of the original recipe and use salted butter when making the topping. I have to be honest…I love salted butter and could seriously eat it with a spoon. But that’s not why I agree with the use of salted butter here. The reason is because this dessert pizza is soooooooo sweet. It will still be sweet even with the salted butter but the saltiness really makes all the other flavors meld so well together. Only have unsalted butter? No problem. Just sprinkle salt on top of the topping. I know it sounds weird, but it will provide the desired result.
One last thing: while it is definitely delicious any way you slice it, please oh please, do yourself and those eating this with you a huge favor and serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. See? I told you so!
